 1882 - Punjab University is established in Shimla.  It was the fourth university in India established by the British colonial government after Calcutta, Mumbai and Madras.
 1933 - Germany announces exit from the Allied group.
 1943 - Japan declares independence of the Philippines.
 1946 - Ceasefire agreement signed between Holland and Indonesia.
 1948 - A fierce battle ensues between Israel and Egypt.
 1953 - The Estate Duty Act came into effect in India.
 1956 - Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, along with his 3,85,000 followers, embraced Buddhism in Kochanda and advised his supporters to follow 22 Buddhist vows.
 1981 - Hosni Mubarak becomes the fourth President of Egypt.
 1979 - One lakh people protest against nuclear power in Bonn, Germany.
 1997 - Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip of Britain pay tribute to the martyrs at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar.
 1999 - Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) rejected in US Senate.
 2000 - The United States closes its embassies in 22 countries, including Pak.
 2002 - The 14th Asian Games concludes in Busan with a promise to meet in Qatar.
 2004 - Pakistan's National Assembly passes a bill to keep President Pervez Musharraf as army chief.
 2007 - Nepal is approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the use of nuclear technology in the medical and agricultural sectors.
 2008 - Reserve Bank of India announced the release of an additional 200 billion rupees to meet the needs of mutual funds.
 2010 - The ongoing 19th Commonwealth Games in the capital Delhi concludes.
 2012 - Gunmen kill 20 people in a mosque in Nigeria.
